CALYPOWER is a comprehensive range of cooling solutions for power modules (IGBT, SiC, GaN, MOSFET, or Diodes packs) in power conversion applications.

Initially developed for Alstom Railway Inverters cooled with natural air convection, it is especially suited for power converters in Transport (Railway, Aeronautics, Maritime, Automotive, etc.), Renewable Energies (Wind, Solar, Waste Heat Recovery,etc.) and Industrial Processesor Motor Drives markets.

Compatible with air or liquid cooled Heat Exchangers, CALYPOWER cooling solutions provide the lowest Total Cost of Ownership. With no power consumption (no liquid pump, no electronics regulation) and no maintenance requirements, CALYPOWER solutions have a very short pay-backtime.

CALYPOWER high efficiency also enables the use of full natural air convection. With no fan, the cooling solution becomes 100% passive for an even reduced Total Cost of Ownership.

CALYPOWER cooling solutions are based upon CAPILLARY PUMPED LOOP (CPL) technologies.

A CPL is a variant of the LOOP HEAT PIPE where the reservoir is external (separated from the evaporator), mainly to enhance the temperature monitoring properties of the cooling solution.

CAPILLARY PUMPED LOOPS are break through cooling solutions.

Used in Power Converters applications, they absorb the heat from the high power modules and move it passively to a remote Heat Exchanger (air or liquid), where it can be easily removed.

  • Thermal Advantages
  • High heat loads: with power losses up to 4kW per pack and heat densities up to 100W/cm², each power module can be used at its extreme limits.

  • Very low thermal resistance: usually below 0,005K/W depending on the application, junction temperatures can be significantly reduced.

  • Isothermal & uniform cooling: vaporization creates a constant temperature (+3K maximum) all across the evaporator, keeping power modules chips.

  • No derating: thanks to the isothermal cooling, power modules can be used more intensely.

  • High temperature operating range: capable to operate in any ambient air conditions from -50°C to +50°C, CALYPOWER can be used in the most extreme environments.

  • Mechanical Advantages
  • Easy and Anti-gravity design: thanks to its capillary pump, designs against gravity or with remote heat exchangers can be realised, making new or retrofit designs even easier.

  • Custom number ofmodules per evaporator: evaporators can be single or double-sided, with several modules per side.

  • Interchangeability: thanks to the uniform cooling, power modules from different manufacturers can be used without changing the cooling solution.

  • Cooling: no maintenance no failure. CPL don’t have any mechanical moving part or power consumption. Life time up to 40 years can be guaranteed.

  • Power modules: higher reliability. With lower junction and swing temperatures, power modules life time can be significantly increased.
