A new AI GenAIRation was born at 2026 OCP EMEA Summit

A new AI GenAIRation was born at 2026 OCP EMEA Summit

the Origin of Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP)

Initiated by Facebook (Meta) in 2009 and opened to the industry in 2011, the Open Compute Project applies open‑source principles to data center hardware design, with a focus on energy efficiency, scalability, and cost optimization. OCP has since evolved into a global collaborative community involving hyperscalers, operators, equipment manufacturers, and technology providers working on open and interoperable data center infrastructure.

Our participation to the Community

Calyos participates in OCP to contribute to the development of energy‑efficient cooling architectures, with an emphasis on passive two‑phase thermal management. We focus on two complementary levels:

  • Server‑level passive two‑phase cooling, aimed at improving thermal performance and extending the operational limits of air‑cooled data centers.
  • Rack‑level passive two‑phase cooling, designed to complement liquid‑cooled infrastructures by addressing high heat fluxes and increasing thermal capacity.

A new Hybrid Air / Direct-to-chip cooling architecture for AI servers

Calyos presented at the 2026 Open Compute Project Foundation EMEA Summit a new cooling architecture for the NVIDIA HGX™ B300 platform.

This was introduced on the booth and during a technical presentation presented by Frédéric Petit (Valeo) and Olivier de Laet (Calyos).

The solution is based on industrial Direct‑to‑Chip passive two‑phase cooling, combining a Calyos two‑phase cold plate with a Valeo refrigerant‑to‑air condenser, both integrated directly within the server.

Compared to a fully air‑cooled server configuration, this hybrid architecture enables:

  • lower GPU junction temperatures,
  • reduced fan power consumption and acoustic noise,
  • increased thermal capacity, supporting higher compute density.

By enabling integration within existing air‑cooled data center infrastructures, this approach supports a smoother transition toward liquid‑cooling architectures, while improving cooling efficiency, controlling infrastructure‑related costs, and enabling the deployment of AI workloads within existing facilities.

Acknowledgement

Calyos acknowledges the Open Compute Project Foundation for fostering an open, collaborative environment that supports technical exchanges and the evaluation of emerging data center infrastructure technologies.

About Calyos

Who We Are
Calyos is a leader in the design and manufacture of two-phase thermal management systems. Building on our heritage from Euro Heat Pipes (EHP) and their space technology expertise, we specialize in innovative cooling solutions that tackle the thermal challenges of tomorrow.
What We Do
We engineer advanced cooling technologies, including loop heat pipes, micro-channel heat pipes, and pulsating heat pipes, to optimize thermal performance across a variety of applications. Typically these include: power electronics, processors, and batteries, but we don't stop there we are continuing to develop and produce fully customizable solutions for other specific needs, for example e-motors and fuel cells.
Where We Operate
Calyos is headquartered in Charleroi, Belgium, where our engineering and production teams work side by side in a state-of-the-art facility. From this base, we serve a global clientele, providing our cutting-edge solutions across North America, Asia, Europe, and South America.
When We Started
Calyos was incorporated in 2014 as a spin-off from Euro Heat Pipes (EHP), which was established in 2001 and has become a major player in the European satellite market. Since then, Calyos has been adapting and evolving EHP's space-grade cooling technologies for terrestrial applications.
Why We Matter
Our mission is to lead the industry towards adopting the most effective and sustainable thermal management solutions. We aim to address the most pressing thermal challenges in the data-driven and electrified environments of today, leveraging passive cooling technologies to achieve superior efficiency and environmental stewardship.
How We Succeed
Our success is driven by our commitment to four core values:
1. Applied Knowledge - Transforming deep technical expertise into market-ready solutions.
2. Better Together - Emphasizing collaboration with all stakeholders to enhance our collective success.
3. Inherent Flexibility - Adapting our solutions and practices to keep pace with evolving market demands.
4. Continuous Research - Persistently innovating to maintain our leadership in thermal technology.
